If you have a low or uneven gum line, often described as a 'gummy smile', or if your gum line is uneven, then gum sculpting can transform even the gummiest of smiles and help create a smile you've always dreamed of.

By reshaping of the gum we can restore the natural proportions of your teeth. There are two procedures used to achieve this, simple soft tissue gum sculpting for subtle but effective improvement or surgical lifting of the gum for more severe cases.

We use gum contouring to remove excess gum to improve the look of uneven gum lines or gummy smiles. With this type of treatment, it really does depend on how much excess gum is showing as to which treatment would be most suitable for you.

If you are looking to just take away a millimetre or so of gum then the gum reshaping treatment is quick and easy and takes a matter of hours to heal. Any more than approximately two millimetres of gum would require a different treatment altogether - a surgical gum lift, and the healing time is much longer - usually three to four months. Gum sculpting is usually done in conjunction with veneers, as the gum is likely to just grow back down without them. What can sometimes happen is that when the gum is taken away the tooth underneath is also likely to be a bit more yellow in colour than the rest of your teeth too, so you need to be aware of that.
